Ever since the eighth century AD raids by seaborne Scandinavians have taken place on British shores and this weekend the battle ground will once again be the National Water Sports Centre in Nottingham.
History though is not on the Brits side for as far back as 1996, when Holme Pierrepont staged the first ever UIM European Formula 2 Championship race, the top step of the podium has never been occupied by a Brit. Back then the Dane, Gerd Ladefoged, led throughout the forty lap Grand Prix, even though there were three race restarts, to take the spoils that day.
